Let’s meet Marijo Valentic, Retail Manager at Designer Outlet Soltau

With a strong background in retail and sales, Marijo Valentic has recently stepped into the role of Retail Manager at Designer Outlet Soltau. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and a passion for building successful brand relationships, ready to contribute his skills and fresh perspective to the dynamic retail landscape of northern Germany.

We caught up with Marijo to learn more about his professional journey and what excites him most about his new role.

Can you take us back to the moment you found out about this role? What made you think, “Yes, this one’s for me”?

I often thought about that position during my time as a Store Manager from 2019 to 2023. I’d catch myself wondering what I would do differently or how I would improve things. But back then, it was just a daydream, knowing the position was already filled.

One day, I jokingly said to the then-Retail Manager “if you ever leave your position here in Soltau, I’d be more than interested.” Not even a year later, that “joke” became reality. The moment I heard about the opening, I just knew—it was the right next step for me and my career. So, I applied. And here I am.

What’s your approach when it comes to building strong partnerships with brands?

I believe that when people understand the why behind something, they take action. That’s why, for me, listening comes first—understanding the needs of my partners is just as important as communicating my expectations to them. I use my experience as a Store Manager and a Development Trainer to help brands recognize their opportunities while showing them how the Center Management can support them to achieve better results.

If Designer Outlet Soltau had a fashion style or attitude—what would it be? Classic and timeless, edgy and bold, laid-back and casual? Give us your take.

I guess it would be casual, cozy and infused with a touch of regional charm! Maybe with a stylish hat on top.

Do you have a go-to motto or mindset when things get busy?

I like to work with the Eisenhower Matrix—it helps me stay ahead and avoid unnecessary stress. But when things do get hectic, I rely on structure and focus to navigate the pressure.

You’ve just moved into your role—any unexpected “first week” moments worth sharing?

My biggest surprise in the first week was my onboarding in Zagreb. The Designer Outlet Croatia team set an amazing example of a well-run outlet with impressive performance and high retail standards—far exceeding my expectations.

So, on one hand: I have to admit, I underestimated it! But on the other: A huge thank you to the team at Designer Outlet Croatia for an incredible onboarding and an inspiring presentation of your premium outlet!
